We all know that this has been an unusually warm winter. Meteorologists typically use the three coolest months (December, January and February) when they are discussing “winter”. This winter may very well go down as the third or fourth warmest in Twin Cities history, based on data that goes back to 1872. We’ll tally up the final numbers after leap day, February 29th.

The temperature outlook is for the entire month, and it does not mean that we won’t see some cool days in March. By the way, the precipitation outlook for March shows just a slight trend toward above normal precipitation :
Long-term averages show that March is our second snowiest month in the Twin Cities, second only to January. Mild temperatures could mean less snow and more rain…we’ll see.
