We had a very warm
March, and our Twin Cities snowfall was less than normal at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The storm that dumped a foot of
snow on parts of the south metro on March 23 only delivered 3.7 inches at MSP
airport. Our March snowfall total at MSP airport was 5.4 inches, which is about
5 inches below our 30 year March average.
Temperatures were below
normal at MSP airport on only 4 of the 31 days in March. Our average
temperature for the month was 8.5 degrees above normal in the Twin Cities,
making March 2016 the 5th warmest March in Twin Cities weather records dating back
to 1873. The highest reading at MSP airport was 70 degrees on March 8th and March
12th, and the chilliest low temp was 13 degrees on March 2nd.
The April outlook shows equal chances of above normal and
below normal temperatures for the Twin Cities metro area.
In case you’re
wondering, our Twin Cities average high temperature rises from 50 degrees on April
1st and 65 degrees on the 30th.
