October 2015 outlook

  September was warmer and wetter than normal in the Twin Cities. Temperatures were warmer than normal on 22 of the 30 days at MSP airport. The highest reading of 89 degrees occurred on September 4 and 5. The chilliest low temp was 43 degrees on September 30. Our average temperature for the month was 5.9 degrees above normal in the Twin Cities. 

  Looking ahead, the October temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center of the National Weather Service shows a slight tendency for above normal temperatures over much of Minnesota and northern Wisconsin:

  In case you are wondering, our average high temperature in the Twin Cities drops from 65 degrees on October 1st to 51 degrees on October 31st.

August 2015 outlook

  July was much wetter than normal in the Twin Cities, but our average temperature for the month finished slightly (four-tenths of a degree) below normal. Our highest temp was 90 degrees on July 17, and our coldest reading was 54 degrees on July 7. The rainfall total at MSP airport was 7.32 inches, which is 3.28 inches above normal. July 2015 was the 7th wettest July in Twin Cities history.

  The August temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center of the National Weather Service shows a slight tendency for below normal temperatures over far southern parts of Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin:

  Our average high temperature in the Twin Cities is 83 degrees on August 1, then slowly drops, hitting 78 degrees on August 31.

July 2015 outlook

  Normal is OK this time of year. Our average temperature for June 2015 was very close to normal in the Twin Cities, coming in at eight-tenths of a degree above normal.  Our highest temp was  92 degrees on June 9, and our coldest reading was 52 degrees on June 1. The rainfall total at MSP airport was 4.40 inches, just .15” above normal.  

  The July temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center of the National Weather Service shows a tendency for below normal temperatures over most of Minnesota and Wisconsin:

   You can expect some warm days and some cool days in July, it is the average temp for the entire month that may come in a bit below normal. Our average high temperature in the Twin Cities is 83 degrees on July 1 and July 31, and it maxes out at 84 degrees from July 6 through July 21.

June 2015 outlook

  Very normal. That’s how I’d describe May 2015. Our average temperature for the month was only one-tenth of a degree above normal in the Twin Cities. We maxed out at 84 degrees on May 27 and 28, and our coldest reading was 37 degrees, on May 19. The rainfall total at MSP airport was 3.55”, just .19” above normal.

May 2015 outlook

  We started the month of April with a record high temp of 84 degrees in the Twin Cities. It had to get cooler after that! Two days later we had a high of only 43 degrees…there were probably a few confused robins out there. Despite some wild temperature swings, the average temperature for April was 2.2 degrees above normal in the Twin Cities.

April 2015 outlook

  March is the third snowiest month of the year in the Twin Cities, based on 30 year averages from 1981 to 2010.  January and December are typically snowier than March. An “average” March brings us 10.2 inches of snow.  We were below average this March at MSP airport, with only 6.8 inches. Unless some very strange things happen in April, November will be the snowiest month of this winter season, with a tally of 9.4 inches.

   

  March started out very chilly, followed by series of nice warm days. Cool temps returned during the third week of the month. Our warmest temperature in the Twin Cities was 70 degrees, on March 15th, and the coldest reading was 7 degrees below zero on the 5th. The average temperature for March was 2.7 degrees above normal in the Twin Cities.

March 2015 outlook

  February was cold with very little snow. Only 4.9 inches fell at MSP airport, which is about 3 inches below our average for February. It was a lot snowier last February, with 18.4 inches measured in the Twin Cities.

   

  Only 5 days in February were warmer than normal. Our warmest temperature at MSP airport was 36 degrees, on February 7. The coldest reading was 11 degrees below zero on February 19 and 23. The average temperature for the month was 9.7 degrees below normal in the Twin Cities.

  If you like milder temps, try to stay optimistic. Our average high temperature in the Twin Cities rises from 34 degrees on March 1st to 49 degrees on March 31st.
